Upon completion, students will be able to:

  1. Apply ethical, legal, and regulatory standards to the release of health information.
  2. Evaluate the validity of requests and determine the appropriate data to release.
  3. Apply department management roles and responsibilities, as well as operational functions.
  4. Define requestor types such as Treatment, payment, operations (TPO), and requests that require or do not require an authorization.
  5. Apply communication techniques in customer service for patients and the public.
  6. Identify emerging topics and best practices for protecting personal health information.
