This endorsement provides entry-level training and education for students preparing for careers as behavioral health workers and community pathfinders in rural communities, private health care sectors, and human service organizations. Students completing this endorsement will be able to screen for and develop an appropriate entry-level plan for mental illness and substance abuse disorders that utilizes client input, community stakeholders, and national resources.

1. Students completing this endorsement will be able to list and describe the biopsychosocial influences affecting mental illness, trauma, and substance use disorders.

2. Students completing this endorsement will learn and develop skills in Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Non-Violent Communication (NVC).

3. Students completing this endorsement will be able to develop an evidence-based consumer-centered intervention plan for mental illness, substance use disorders, trauma, and crises that utilizes client input and local and national resources.
